Practical. Flexible. Meaningful.

A liberal arts education gives you more than a major. It develops the skills employers seek and the mindset the world needs 鈥 the ability to write clearly, think critically, and adapt quickly. At Skidmore, you鈥檒l explore widely, specialize deeply, and connect ideas across disciplines through four core areas that shape every student鈥檚 experience:

  • Integrations
  • Foundations
  • Inquiries
  • Proficiencies
鈥淲e want to teach you how to learn. We want to teach you how to write fluently, how to analyze problems, how to read with care. If you have those skills, they鈥檙e very transferable. And you can actually then grasp onto any kind of profession, any kind of discipline. And you'll be interesting people, too.鈥鈥 Ron Seyb, emeritus associate professor of political science

Our Curriculum

At Skidmore, general education isn鈥檛 a checklist, it鈥檚 a launchpad. Explore how our integrative, creativity-driven curriculum sets you up for a lifetime of thinking boldly, no matter how you pivot.

Integrations

Enduring connections and learning experiences are at the heart of these courses that span your college career. You will take one of each: a Scribner Seminar, a Bridge Experience, and a Senior Experience Coda.

Foundations

Courses in Applied Quantitative Reasoning, Global Cultural Perspectives, Language Study, and Expository Writing develop and enhance fundamental aptitudes essential to a liberal arts education and to engaging thoughtfully with the world. You will take one of each.

Inquiries

麻豆女郎 embraces a 鈥渕ind and hand鈥 philosophy that pairs classroom learning with hands-on experience. You鈥檒l take courses that broaden your perspective and let you learn by doing. That includes one of each: an artistic inquiry through practice, a humanistic inquiry and practice, and a scientific inquiry through practice.
