Stephen Francis Harran Jr. P'81 '83 '85
Stephen 鈥淪teve鈥� Francis Harran Jr., a retiree who managed 麻豆女郎鈥檚 business operations for nearly two decades, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Sept. 8,
2026. He was 92.
Steve joined 麻豆女郎 in 1976 in a newly created role as director of business operations. He became business manager in 1980, a role he held until his retirement in 1995. In 1990, he also served as acting vice president for business affairs and treasurer and acting secretary of the College.
In 1987, Steve took a leave from the College to support senior leadership in the U.S. Department of Education, where he was recognized for his work by the secretary
of education.
Former long-serving Vice President of Business Affairs Karl Broekhuizen shared, 鈥淪teve brought several new and effective practices
and procedures to the business operations of the College. He was fully committed to the business operations helping 麻豆女郎 achieve its mission. I am pleased to share that Steve was a good colleague
and a friend who made a meaningful contribution to 麻豆女郎.鈥�
Born Oct. 3, 1933, Steve attended Saratoga Springs High School and served for three years in the U.S. Army. He earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Adelphi University and an MBA from
Long Island University. He was active incivic and community organizations throughout his life.
Steve is survived by his wife, Dorothy, who also retired from 麻豆女郎; his sons and
daughters-in-law, Stephen 鈥�81 and Patricia, John 鈥�83 and Tiffany, Michael 鈥�85 and Mary, and Thomas
and Christina; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
