COVID-19, influenza (aka flu) and other cold-type viruses have a wide array of symptoms that can overlap and vary from person to person. Symptoms can range from mild to severe. They can include:

  • - General symptoms: Chills, feeling hot, body aches, fatigue
    - Fever: Defined as temperature at or above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or 38 degrees Celsius
    - Cold-like symptoms: Congestion or runny nose, sore throat, headache
    - Cough, difficulty breathing (aka shortness of breath)
    - Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
    - Conjunctivitis (鈥淧ink Eye鈥)
    - New loss of taste or smell

If you need immediate medical assistance or emergency transportation for severe symptoms (like significant trouble breathing, significant chest pain, fever with confusion or unusual behavior) contact Campus Safety 518-580-5566.

When to test

If symptoms develop, testing can help you better understand your care needs and protect those around you.

Testing options:

  • - Home testing: Purchase home rapid test (combination COVID-19 and flu types A & B) at the SkidShop and local pharmacies.鈥
    - Appointment: Health Services offers rapid flu and COVID-19 testing during a鈥痵cheduled appointment with a medical provider. If you have questions about your symptoms or how to manage them, or if you would like to be seen in Health Services, please schedule an appointment.

Timing: Even with symptoms, rapid testing at home or in Health Services may not be positive until the second or third day of symptoms. A negative test on Day 1-3 does not necessarily exclude COVID-19 or flu.  If symptoms persist, you should follow recommendations for preventing spread of viruses and re-test on Day 3 or 4 of symptoms.
